Schiphol Airport

Over the years I've read quite a few articles praising Schiphol Airport as being one of the most efficient and traveler-friendly airports in the world. I decide to find out first-hand and end up spending a weekend at the Hilton Hotel, one of two hotel properties located inside the airport. You can grab a train in Amsterdam's central station and it'll deposit you under the airlines check-in counters in 15 minutes. If you prefer to ride your bike, several bike paths take you through and around the airport grounds.

If you got time to waste, Schiphol has roughly 40 shops. The food prices charged at most airports are rip-offs. I find the fast-food places here to be only a few cents higher than the prices charged in the city. Another plus: the terminal is smoke-free. Well, it's suppose to be but they don't do a very good job of enforcing it. Smoking is allowed in bar areas and the stench spills over to the pedestrian walkways. Outside the terminal is a big open area with benches for catching some sun and fresh air-that is if you can find a spot away from smokers. Isn't it funny how smokers like to toss their cigarette butts on the ground-as if it isn't litter?
