Saanen, Switzerland

It's only a few miles down the mountain from Gstaad and markets itself with its much bigger and fancier neighbor but, Saanen is distinct in its own right. Many of the homes in the village area look like the one in the photo on the left. Gstaad Airport, a runway on the patch of green behind the houses, is located in Saanen.

Is this place hopping or is it dead in the summer?
Nice mix of locals and tourists.

Is there a lake and/or golf course in town?
No.

Arriving by car the only option?
Train makes stop.

Does the place feel claustrophobic?
No.

Lots of choices for acccomodations (hotels/ chalets) and do I have recommendations?
Limited with only five hotel options.

Could I spend a whole summer here or would I get bored?
With Gstaad only a few miles up the road, this could be a place to spend the whole summer.
