Saas Fee, Switzerland

Wow, what's not to like about Saas Fee? The panoramic vistas are impressive, it's car-free, meaning all vehicles have to park at the edge of town (similar to Zermatt, its neighbor on the other side of the mountain) and there's lots to do. In some ski towns visited being hemmed in by mountains left me feeling claustrophobic. Not here. Cycling around the area with my touring bike was enjoyable and imagine it would be even more so with a mountain bike. I did a bit of hiking and it looks like they have trails for every category of hiker. Zermatt caters more to tourists and Saas Fee seems more family-oriented. In the valley floor below one can hop on a train to reach Zermatt. Saas Fee however, has no train service and one needs to take a bus. As normal in most ski resorts, some hotels here close down for the summer season. I was a guest at the Ferienart Resort & Spa and this excellent five star property has no problem getting the two thumbs up from me!

Is this place hopping or is it dead in the summer?
There are tourists but not like the swarms that invades nearby Zermatt.

Is there a lake and/or golf course in town?
No.

Arriving by car the only option?
Bus service from the valley floor.

Does the place feel claustrophobic?
No.

Lots of choices for acccomodations (hotels/ chalets) and do I have recommendations?
Plenty of hotels in all categories. I stayed at the *****star Ferienart Resort & Spa and it easily gets the two thumbs-up from me.

Could I spend a whole summer here or would I get bored?
Yes, Saas Fee would be a place to spend the summer.
