Villars, Switzerland
Though the downtown commercial
area of Villars only extends
a few blocks with limited retail and eating establishments, one
only has to go to the outskirts of town
to see all the new construction going on here. Villars isn't
high-end ski resort like Verbier or Gstaad but, its has plenty
of appeal. On the main street through town sits Aiglon College,
a large British boarding school, one of several in this Alpine
resort. Here's a photo of a ski lift
in town but, hop on a train and in 15 minutes you're in Bretaye,
and I count four more ski lifts.
On the way up to Bretaye the train passes by Golf
Club Villars and its picturesque course.
There aren't many accommodations to choose from in Villars but
I at least five are rated four stars.
Is this place
hopping or is it dead in the summer?
Quiet
place, not that that is a bad thing.
Is there a lake
and/or golf course in town?
Golf on
the plateau above Villars.
Arriving by
car the only option?
Train
service from the valley floor.
Does the place feel claustrophobic?
No.
Lots of choices
for acccomodations (hotels/ chalets) and do I have recommendations?
Not many
hotels. One *****stars, four **** stars and two *** stars hotels.
I did not spend the night here.
Could I spend a whole summer here or would I get bored?
A week would be the max. |
